When my mum was about 19 she crocheted this blanket. It's a traditional granny square but supersized! I remember first seeing it at my grandmothers place years ago and loving the colours, but my mother hates them. "Nan had a thing for Autumn tones, yuck." she says. I remember planning to make the same blanket one day, typing the pattern of colours as a note into my old mobile phone (back in the day of the old Nokia 3110, there were no mobile phone cameras just yet!), then promptly forgot all about it.
A few years later I was home from uni holidays and came across the blanket in the linen closet, mum said I could have it and I was stoked. I took it back to uni with me and kept it at the end of my bed for years. I love having something that my mother created so young, and it reminds me that my crafty behaviours don't just come out of thin air.
A couple of months ago whilst in the studio with Bo Banta I started crocheting my own granny square blanket. It's my first attemp, and I've been a touch lazy with it of late, but I'm starting to pick it up again. I'm planning for it to be big enough to cover our bed.
I'll keep you posted with my progress!

Oh, yay!! :) I *love* that old blanket of your mom's - I'm the same way with my mom's older crafty stuff. I'm making a granny blanket too and it's taking *so long* - I have to keep reminding myself it'll be worth it once she's all done...lol. Super-cute!
